A relatively "new" idea in modelling, static grass uses static-electricity to create realistic grass effects. We're big fans of it at Derails and it's something we've spent a lot of time working with!
The centre to any static grass project is the applicator. It's a battery powered unit that you can buy off the shelf (we reccommend the Peco Pro-Grass Applicator and their range of static grass). Then all you need is your grass which is available in multiple lengths and colours and a little glue, and away you go.
In our personal opinion, static grass really adds a lot of character to a layout and we thoroughly reccomend it! Here's a video demonstration:

Length: for example, 2mm, 4mm, 6mm = this is the length of the grass strands. There are lots of different lengths for different purposes, 1mm provides a mown lawn type grass, 6mm a wild meadow.
Weight: for example, 20g, 30g, 100g = this is the size of the pack. You will receive this weight in grass. Typically 20g of grass will cover a 2ft x 2ft area with a little spare.
