Making a purchase
This could not be easier. Add your desired items to your cart and then click checkout. You will have ample opportunity to confirm and check your order during the process. However, once you have clicked the confirmation button and you are on paypal's website, your order can NOT be changed unless you contact us. No contract exists at this point.
Our website automatically sends a pro-forma order confirmation. However no contract exists until we have manually sent you a shipping confirmation email, which indicates that we have accepted and despatched your order. In the unlikely event that we refuse the order, we will notify you by email. It is only at the stage of us accepting your order that we will take money from you. A VAT invoice is created at time of despatch - a VAT receipt is automatically sent with all locomotives for warranty purposes, however if you would like VAT receipt with any order you place that does not include a locomotive, please request this in the order form comments section when ordering.
In the event that we change a products price, we will notify you before we take action to gain your approval. All products prices shown include VAT at the current rate.
We accept debit and credit card and payments through Paypal. You do not require a Paypal account to do this. All card transaction are dealt with inside Paypal's encrypted and secure website. We do not view any card details, bank account details or any other confidential information. We also accept cheque/money order payments. Cheques take seven days to clear before the goods are sent.
As part of our service, we offer a pre-order service so you can reserve an item ahead of it's release - it's particularly useful for popular items such as new releases, etc.
Here at Derails, we have two different ways you can pre-order. The first is through our deposit service, where you pay just deposit to secure your requested item, and then closer to the release date, we will get in touch to request the balance payment, which can then be paid by card or cash The deposit is non-refundable in the event that you cancel the order (excluding circumstances beyond your control). Deposits can be transferred between items unless the original item is within four weeks of delivery, in which case we will have submitted our final orders to the manufacturer.
We also offer a 'pay all up front' service, if you would like your order to jump the queue and have the peace of mind all you have to do is sit and wait, you can pay all up front at the time of ordering.
Please note that some items are only available as 'Pay all up front' pre-orders - this is due to our merchant banks (Paypal, Barlclaycard, etc) charging high fees and on some lower value items, the fees for two transactions is just too high for us to absorb. All items in this category, from March 2017, will be clearly marked as such for your convenience.

We as modellers know that you want your models to be perfect when they arrive so we try to package them as well as we can. However, if a product is damaged when it arrives please contact us immediately. If the item/s are worth under £46, we can make a claim to The Post Office/Royal Mail. For this, we require a photo of the damaged goods and for you to retain the item/s in case they need to inspect them.
All of our products come with a 12 month manufacturers warranty. If any item develops a fault within the 12 months, please contact us or the manufacter. If us, please quote your invoice number. All locomotives are tested before despatch to avoid dissapointment due to faulty manufacture. Please mention in the comments section of our order process if you would NOT like your model tested. Also, we have a 7 day product satisfaction guarantee. Please see the returns section below.
In the unlikely event you would need to return a product, please retain the original packaging. If you are returning the product under our satisfaction guarantee, it MUST be returned within 7 days, in unopened, perfect and resaleable condition. The return postage is your responsibility, and we suggest you use an insured and tracked postal service as a refund will only be issued once the item/s are received back here undamaged. Checks will be made and once we are satisfied we will refund in full the original postage plus the cost of the items through the original method of payment.
Derails Models runs an in-house reward points scheme on our website. When you order, for every £1 you spend (excluding postage) you will receive 1 point. Each point equals 1p when you re-order with us in the future, i.e 100 points = £1.
To use your reward points, simply add your products to your cart, click 'Shopping Cart' in the top right hand corner of our site, scroll down and click 'Use reward points'. You can then enter the desired amount you would like to use and they will be deducted when you confirm your order.
Unfortunately, due to the way the system works, reward points can be amassed in-store and via telephone sales, but can only spent via online orders - this is becuase we have no manual way of removing them if you order via the telephone or in our shop. Reward points are not given out on orders they are redeemed on, for example if you place an order and spend your points, you will not receive any points for that specific order.
Please note that reward points are not ammassed or are able to be spent on Roundhouse Garden Railway Locomotives.
Any personal details entered are stored securely and only used for the purposes of your account or order management. We do not pass or sell ANY personal details to anybody else. We may occasionally send out email, notifying you of offers and other important information. Please let us know if you wish to unsubscribe.
You/your Company are customers of Derails Models. We are therefore required to inform you that Derails Models holds and stores basic information in relation to yourselves in the form of your identity, title, contact details and current and historical information relating to the commercial relationship between us. The data is held securely, and you have the right to ask us to confirm the details of the data we hold about you at any time for the purposes of confirmation, validation, amendment or deletion.
By virtue of the commercial relationship that exists between us, it is assumed that you consent, and will continue to consent, to this basic commercial information being stored by us.
